A Little Bit About Us... A Little Bit About Us...
I am inclined to believe my passion for vintage clothing stems from the fact that I grew up during the eighties. Although the 80s is enjoying a bit of a renaissance at the moment I have yet to see it pulled off effectively. I feel the 80s is an almighty eyesore on the landscape of the peaks and valleys of fashions hilly terrain.

Whoever thought shoulder pads was a good idea? I suggest you watch an episode of  Dallas for those not familiar with this bizarre aberration of the female form. Cinchers are probably this decade’s only redeeming feature and justifiably enjoy renewed popularity.  For this reason Vintage Vibrations supply only authentic vintage apparrel up to 1979!!

Anyway at age fourteen in 1992 I discovered a pair of navy blue cord bellbottoms. Since then I have only looked back!!

Being a bit of a free spirit I enjoyed experimenting with different fashion trends and combinations as a form of self-expression. This is a time-consuming activity in those turbulent adolescent years when one is searching to find that self which one is trying to express. In perusing the vintage stalls and rails of Dublin’s Temple Bar I found a mode of expression that identified with the personality I was attempting to forge. For those so inclined fashion is more about how one conceives themselves rather than an attempt to wear something merely nice or fashionable. A person’s self-conception is inevitably dependant on being perceived by others. This forging of ones self is actively or passively established through the creation of an image.

I later moved to Edinburgh, one of the worlds vintage capitals in my opinion and a very beautiful city indeed. It is an inspirational place to live in terms of the breathtaking architecture and the freedom of expression it boasts. No one here seems to be aware of the formulaic dress codes common to most major cities. I have observed so frequently everyone walking around as an advertisement for gap or Top shop's window display. This is why I love vintage. It is an opportunity to think for yourself and not to be limited to the specifications of leading high street oulets' window displays.

I know that a lot of you vintage collectors and fashionistas will identify with the disillusionment of mass produced high street trends deprived of originality and creativity.. Although Marc Jacobs, Gucci and Prada may still be producing interesting design styles, the best of these seem to be borrowed from yester-year. I know as fact that these big names buy in quantity from local vintage stores in my area to inspire their current designers. Even still these items do not attain the one of a kind status of unique vintage items which were not produced with world scale megastore chains in mind. As individuals we are all by definition one of a kind, we seek to find apparel that reflects this. I believe this is a fundamental human attribute. Our image and ergo our clothing is how we are evaluated by others at least on an initial basis throughout the course of our daily lives. Again how we conceive of ourselves and how we are perceived, as social beings is of foremost importance since social relations  friendships, employment and life term commitments are in some part derivative of these initial perceptions or first impressions.

For the more creative temperament fashion is an art form. What differentiates kandinsky from Jackson Pollock is not merely the difference in where the paint falls but more essentially in the personality and attitude of the artist. It is the attitude with which the image is constructed with both clothing and art that determines its impact.

This is the essence of Vintage Vibrations. We strive for individuality, creativity and attitude delving into the rich wealth of diversity and change throughout our common fashion heritage.
